A pure breed
“My family doesn’t allow people of other communities to enter the kitchen, it is because of hygiene problem. They don’t trust other communities’ hygiene regime,” says Abhishek Sharma, 24, a radio jockey.
“Marriages within the same caste help to rear a pure breed. I would not go against my parents’ will. After all they are the elders and we should protect our lineage,” says Preeti Singh, 25, an HR executive. Read that again: an HR executive.
Both in the Hindustan Times yesterday.
Shame on you, Abhishek and Preeti. By the way, what are your views on reservations?
on Brazen Careerist shares the Gen Y view on holidays and work, and can they be the same thing. The Evil HR Lady on “Title Mania”. Hmm… I wonder why it’s called man-ia ;) ? Ouch ! Shivam, I assure you, such HR people are the exception. I hope.
If anything, the fact that matrimonial ads in the newspapers are still divided by caste and community demonstrate that caste is alive and well in modern India. The ads are neatly divided into “Jat,” “Brahmin,” “Christian”…
“Marriages within the same caste help to rear a pure breed” , she got her science completely wrong.. hmmm Blame it on the retrograde colonial education system!
what are your views on reservations?
I can give the answer : you know, i agree that there was lot off attrocities against the lower castes some years back . Nothing happens these days, in shining in India. Do we ask anyone their caste or creed when they enter a shopping mall??
phew!!
[...] Shivam has quoted two people who tend to exhibit racial supremacist attitude. The first one is out of pure ignorance and the second one is out of lack of understanding of science “My family doesn’t allow people of other communities to enter the kitchen, it is because of hygiene problem. They don’t trust other communities’ hygiene regime,” says Abhishek Sharma, 24, a radio jockey. [...]
“After all they are the elders and we should protect our lineage”
It’s so ironical. They talk about protecting their lineage. It’s actually making them more vulnerable by narrowing down the gene pool.
This reminds me of what a journalist friend told me sometimes back. He went to do a story on young VJs who work in a Malayalam youth tv channel. After the interview one of the guys, a well-built young man, told my friend: “You might haven’t noticed seeing my muscles and all, but I am a Namboothiri” (Kerala Brahmin). Irritated by hearing this, my friend asked him back, “Do you have any extra body parts because of being a Namboothiri?” The young gun’s face turned pale.
Also there is a sect of Catholic Christians in Kerala known as Knanaya Christians. Eventhough they come under the Catholic Church, they have their own churches and their own Bishop etc. This Bishop is a very lucky person since he can travel across the world whereever there is a Knanaya marriage or church functions happen because he is the only Bishop for this sect. Their Bishop House is in Kottayam district in Kerala.
The Knanaya Christians do not marry from other communities to keep their ‘pure blood’. Since they are Jewish Christians and their forefathers are from Israel, they want to maintain this “pure blood” thing. Forget other churches, they do not even marry Catholics who do not belong to this sect. If someone marries outside the sect, he/she is treated as an outcast.

Yes, it’s most disappointing when you hear something like that from a 20-something-year-old. Friends who talk about wanting sons disgust and disappoint me just as much as this.
I’m sure Abhishek and Preeti are of the opinion that Hitler and Lord Voldemort were right all along…
One more to add to the two, my colleague just a few days back “My dad told me to marry from our caste or higher caste. Higher castes are Ok…because we’ll go up then”
its a race man, Race race !
These kinds of thoughts, i thought, were best relegated to the uneducated masses in the country side. To see them part of mainstream modern land is disappointing.
They said that borders between the villages and the city were getting blurred. This is SOME proof !
Maybe in the near future, a requirement for marriage would be a genetic-compatibility test to ensure the pureness of the breed!
Btw, saw you on NDTV yesterday!
good one Shivam. yes, even inter-religious marriages face such attitude. Majority of Hindu and Muslim friends, who are otherwise liberal, suddenly turn rigid when it comes to this issue, especially if the girl belongs to their community and marries with boy of other community, as if it is one count less and that would be horrible. Hypocrisy ki had nahin hai.
It’s not difficult to believe. Contrary to what one may expect, this generation is less rebellious than previous ones. They are so busy coveting the latest brands of goodies, they don’t have much time to rock the establishment. Sorry, I don’t like generalizing usually.
Sure these two people whose statements you quote are stupid. But how does it matter what are their views on reservation?
I find their views stupid and idiotic, but am against reservation. I see merit as the only criteria. Why should anyone be given preference only because he was born in a particular caste.

In Fact, She is absoulutely correct, when she said about Pure Breed. You are advised to read, Heredity and Eugenics by Gates, and Women’s Era article on Genetic Marriage. Further, please refer the ultimate source, Manu Smriti Chapter III. Best, A

There is no pure racial breed in India.I do understand that maintaining racial purity is of essence to maintain quality of culture and tradition but honestly beyond a religious perspective(if you believe in your religion so much) it is totally crazy to cite caste in this regard.I hope this blog is kept alive and A B if Manu(who very much can be confirmed to be a “true nordic” would have burnt you on a stake if he were alive today.
imagine marrying your siblings!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that too the same blood as they always say…… it happens only in the knanaya community…. they claim that they are the jewish descendants ….. but i havent seen a dark….. sorry i should say blacjk jewish anywhere other than in kerala……. i have seen a helll lot of them…. it cant really be taken that way….
